Graphic Design & Visual Communication Bachelor's Programme
Graphic Design & Visual Communication Bachelor's Programme
The Graphic Design & Visual Communication programme at the undergraduate level equips students with the necessary skills and expertise to develop creative and responsible solutions in the field of design. The medium of instruction is English, and it prepares graduates for diverse and international working environments by collaborating closely with Berlin's dynamic creative industries. Through comprehensive and hands-on projects, students experience the entire design process, from research and idea development to concept evaluation, project design, and technical implementation. Projects encompass both analog and digital media elements. Students undertake design work across a wide range of outputs, including applications, animations, augmented and virtual reality scenarios, books and magazines, campaigns, brand identities, posters, and websites. At the same time, they acquire the ability to professionally present their ideas across different media.
Berlin International Educational Concept
The learning environment created at Berlin International is student-centered and practical. Our educational approach focuses on project-based learning; students participate in both individual and group work that supports their professional and personal development, enhancing their teamwork skills. All undergraduate programmes at Berlin International are conducted in English. The combination of our diverse student and academic staff with our global network enables us to offer a truly international academic experience.
Programme Curriculum
In a practice-oriented and supportive learning atmosphere, our team of educators and professors, who possess international experience and comprehensive academic backgrounds, encourages students to discover their individual talents and shape their own professional paths. In the first year, students acquire fundamental design skills, creative infrastructure, photography, interaction design, editorial design, typography, and new media knowledge. They also learn the basic concepts of design theory.
In the second year, students gain strategic and intercultural skills through both collaborative and individual projects. They create complex design systems and evaluate their work from both practical and theoretical perspectives. Project work offers creative solutions to current and future challenges in ecological, economic, social, and political contexts. Our tasks focus on meeting human needs and benefiting the environment.
In the third year, our students develop bespoke design solutions for a real client by collaborating with peers from other programmes in an interdisciplinary project. They also complete an internship and enhance their research skills. Finally, they prove their expertise with the bachelor thesis and bachelor design projects they prepare on topics that reflect the spirit and culture of the time, chosen by themselves. Additionally, a tailored course equips students with the knowledge and strategies necessary for successfully stepping into professional life.
